Hi Sister! Hi Brother! Welcome to "The 'B' Word Series: Part 1"

This new series will give you insight from God's word and be a reminder to who you are!

The "B" Word is a word that we so often give a negative eye toward. But no worries, I am not talking about that one--I am talking about the word BRIGHT. Recently, I have met with amazing, encouraging women who are lead by the LORD. Women from all different walks in life. Women who are bright. What exactly does this word mean? (PS go get some coffee or go for a walk with a wise, bright, God-fearing mentor. You will not regret it, sister!)

Bright: giving out tons of light; shining. Synonyms are: dazzling, brilliant, radiant, etc. (Leah's Definition).

Coming out of a season where God lovingly slapped me in the face, I was reminded where I put my identity: my community. That meant I found myself finding God in the people around me as well as the things I did. Finding myself with my world upside down *cough cough...COVID-19* I noticed the silence and stillness in the Lord. I noticed his want for a relationship with me. Man, I was blown away by his love and his open arms to welcome me back from walking down an uncharted street that was dark.

Our walk with God is bright. It is lit up and dazzling. Let us call it God and Me Boulevard. As we wander and dance down the street, we want to take detours to get us further on. The unknown allures us. We take off down Homegirl-Turn-Around Street... but we run further. With each step, a street-light blows it's fuse. Only leaving us walking in darkness and lonely. We are scared. We are alone. We are without light.

When you get to the point of "Nah, imma head out" you turn around and see this BLINDING BRIGHT LIGHT. It dazzles with truth, with radiance, with warmth. You walk, no, you run toward God and Me Boulevard.

That detour was not a shortcut nor was it wasted time. You, my friend, learned. You learned the uncomfortable feeling of being in a cold darkness of scarcity. You learned the feeling of loneliness, of being afraid, of being without the light. You learned the beauty of being BRIGHT.

We are not called to stroll down Homegirl-Turn-Around Street. We are not called to sit down and live the life other's expect you to. If you are living this life, you are not to the point of no return. Turn around, sister, the light is there. We are called to be the light.

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” "

Ephesians 5: 8-14

We all have been in that darkness. Our world is in that darkness now: racism, sickness, hatred... the list goes on and on. But we are not meant to stay there. We are to burst forth into the bright days ahead that are good, righteous, and full of truth. Those days through the Lord. He gives us the light to expose the hate, so speak up and be the light in this darkness. Expose the darkness by sharing your story, by talking to others, and by loving others well. So wake up, walk to the light, and be bright.

When God revealed to me where my foundation was, it was uncomfortable. It was a heavy feeling, but surrendering that I need directions back home was the freedom in admittance.

God wants us back with Him! We are called to be bright:

14 “You are the light of the world.A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5: 14-16

We are a lamp. So many times we try to shine in areas of our life where we try and put our identity (work, school, our looks, the gym, etc.). We try to light that area up through an extension cord that is plugged into a trusty source, God. The extension cord is the uncomfortable area we rely on to give us that identity in a different part of life. GET RID OF THE EXTENSION CORD. We try to extend ourselves on our own strength that only enables us to light up that portion of our life (work, school, etc). When you toss out the extension cord, we get plugged right into the source that is all powerful and full of provision. This only enables us to shine brighter! When we are plugged into the source (God) we are going to shine in all aspects of our life rather than the one area we relied on the extension cord to help us light up. God will give us enough energy to light it all up! Let's get lit with the Lord!

Where is your foundation? Where are you headed? Do you have an extension cord? Are you strolling on the wrong street? Turn around and see the light. Unplug from the extension cord and get straight to the source. You are the B-Word so shout it loud, "I AM BRIGHT."

"Light is sweet,

and it pleases the eyes to see the sun."

Ecc. 11: 7

Run to the light and shine shine shine BRIGHT!
